The artificial surface at Court Place Farm could play a part in Keith Curle's team selection when the Cobblers take on Oxford City in the first round of the FA Cup.

Town head across the border on Monday evening hoping to avoid an upset against the National League South outfit, particularly with the tie to be broadcast live on BT Sport.

However, although Curle is keen to progress, he also knows the risk of selecting certain players on the 4G pitch at Oxford's home ground. That said, Ricky Holmes is 'available' despite his back problems.

"I've got players whereby it's not advisable for them to play on the surface, which is understandable, and I'll take that onboard," said Curle. "But we'll be competitive.

"Ricky is available because that's the type of character he is. He's been given an opportunity by us and he's signed a short-term contract and he wants to play every minute of every game.

"He was desperate to get on the pitch against MK Dons in the week and it's the same with everyone in the squad because we've got players who want to play and want to perform.

"It's the same with Alan Sheehan and Nicky Adams, players who are over 30 but they've got a hunger for the game and that's why they've been brought to the club.

"They've got an infectious personality in and around the changing room, and whether it's a training session or a competitive game, they want to be involved and they want to be on the pitch and that's rubbing off on the other players."
