Club captain Nicky Adams has promised that Cobblers will 'give it our all' when they begin their play-off campaign against Cheltenham Town on Thursday.

Following three months without a game, Town will hope to play three games over the next 12 days as they battle alongside Colchester United, Exeter City and the Robins for promotion to League One.

Cheltenham visit the PTS for the first leg tomorrow before Cobblers head to Whaddon Road next Monday.

"These next few days of training will be very important for us," said Adams. "It's been the strangest time I've ever experienced but we know what we're about, we know what we're good at and we know what we have to do, so we'll go out there and give it our all.

"There's no time to be messing around. The gaffer is great with us because he lets us having fun and enjoy ourselves but once we get on the training pitch, it's down to business.

"It's a massive game for the club and if you look all the way through the squad, it's very competitive. Myself, Charlie (Goode) and Alan (McCormack), we don't want anyone's standards to drop and we pride ourselves on making sure the lads are doing the right things.

"But the lads have been superb. Everyone has come back in really good condition and now it's just the excitement of having the opportunity to win promotion because that's what we set out to do."

Cobblers have been training with a squad of 24 in the lead-up to the play-offs and every one of those players is desperate to grab a spot in the team.

"Every successful team needs lads who are not playing every week to push the lads who are and we've certainly got that here," added Adams.

"You don't finish in the top seven if you don't have that so we've got a great squad of lads and anyone is capable of coming in at any time.

"No one knows what the team will be but the gaffer has said it's a clean slate and whoever comes in and whoever plays, they deserve that opportunity."
