Northants, who lost at home to Nottinghamshire last week, were beaten by six wickets at Durham Jets on Friday night.

It means two of the County’s three defeats in the North Group have come during the past seven days, but they remain second in the table.

And they know a victory against Birmingham Bears at the County Ground on Tuesday night could see them qualify for the quarter-finals of the competiion.

Durham limited the Steelbacks to 149 for five at the Riverside Ground and then overcame a mid-innings wobble to secure a six-wicket success.

Wakely was disappointed by the defeat, which came with nine balls remaining, but he has vowed that the Steelbacks will recover quickly.

The captain tweeted: “Disappointed not to win a crucial, tight game tonight. Put the pressure back on ourselves but we will bounce back. #steelbacks.”
