NCL ROUND-UP: Horton close to safety as Stony are routed

The win means Horton are 52 points clear of bottom-of-the-table Burton Latimer, who were beaten by Old Northamptonians.

Stony’s batters had no answer to Evans and Smith as they were shot out for a paltry 80, with Evans taking three for 22 and Smith three for 13,

Aiden Fowkes claimed four for 35 as ONs dismissed Burton Latimer for 154, with Zaakir Khawaja bagging three for 12.

ONs lost wickets at regular intervals, but got home at 155 for seven, with Martyn Cory the maintsay with 46.

Rain spoiled the conclusion of the clash between Wellingborough and Saints, with the match ending in a draw.

Borough will have been pleased with their 231 for nine, with Northants man Christian Davis hitting 57. For Saints, Chris Harris took four for 48 and Corbyn Dolley three for 50.

With the rain having its say later in the day, Saints closed on 160 for four with Alec Swann (46) and Geoff Jackson (35) enjoying decent knocks.

Oundle claimed a losing draw at Milton Road as Brixworth emerged with the greater share of the points.

Tom Worthington (67), Callum Berrill (76) and Peter Caunt (61) all hit half-centuries as Brixworth declared on 268 for four after 53 overs.

Oundle were never in the hunt in the reply and closed on 191 for seven, with Mark Hodgson unbeaten on 50 and Alex Lacey taking two for 26.

It’s a case of as you were at the top after both Finedon Dolben and Peterborough Town recorded comfortable victories.

The leaders eased past Rushton by eight wickets and Peterborough trounced Wollaston by 10 wickets which means that the gap remains at 21 points.

At Station Road, having won the toss, Finedon’s seamers made short work of the home side’s batting line-up.

Jack Chopping took six for 37 and Will Sneath three for 23 as Rushton were shot out for just 88 in 33 overs.

Marcus Steed, with an unbeaten 33, was the only one to offer much resistance.

The reply was dominated by Ben Howgego who raced to 57 off 39 balls as the target was achieved in a fraction under 14 overs.

At London Road, Peterborough made amends for their loss earlier in the season as they hammered Wollaston.

The in-form Asim Butt was again to the fore as he thrashed an unbeaten 83 from just 49 deliveries as the hosts’ total of 108 was emphatically overhauled in the 14th over.

It was the spin duo of Paul McMahon and Lewis Bruce who had done the damage earlier in the day as they wreaked havioc with figures of four for 31 and five for 14 respectively.
