The 32-year-old reached the impressive landmark when he captained the West Indies to a 25-run win in their T20 international against Sri Lanka at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday night.

And it was a night of double personal celebration for Pollard, who also scored 34 runs from just 15 balls in the Windies innings to take him past the magical 10,000 runs mark in T20 cricket.

He becomes only the second player in T20 history to pass the 10,000-run mark, with the other being his West Indies team-mate Chris Gayle - who tops the charts with an incredible tally of 13,296!

And Gayle was quick to congratulate Pollard on his achievement, tweeting: "Congrats on the 500 and welcome to the 10K Club, @KieronPollard55"

Pollard, who has signed an eight-match deal with Northants to play in this summer's Vitality T20 Blast, was presented with a special shirt prior to the game, with the number 500 emblazoned on the back.

It proved to be a good night all round for Pollard and the West Indies, who took a 1-0 lead in the series, and the all-rounder said: "Personally, I am very proud and I know people back home are happy for me, both friends and family.

"To play 500 games in any format of cricket takes a lot and I’m only 32, so you don’t know how much more I may play.

"For me personally, I’m very happy and all that I strive to do is perform to the best of my ability, each and every time I step on to the field of play.”

Pollard has been contracted to play in eight of the Steelbacks T20 group matches this summer, with six of them being played at the County Ground.
