Experienced Worcestershire opener Daryl Mitchell gave credit to Northants after a rain-affected first day at the County Ground.

Just 37.5 overs were bowled in the Bob Willis Trophy battle at Northampton, but there was time for five wickets to fall.

Nathan Buck bagged three of them, taking three for 31 as Worcestershire found themselves 84 for five.

Blessing Muzarabani and Gareth Berg also claimed dismissals as Northants started strongly.

Worcestershire eventually closed on 93 for five.

And Mitchell, who could only make seven before Buck had him caught by Berg, said: "It seamed quite considerably and bounced as well and I thought we did extremely well to get through to lunch only three down.

"Those two wickets after lunch hurt us a bit but it’s a well balanced game.

"They bowled very well with the new ball and made it difficult to score.

"The ball didn’t really come on, a few were hitting quite high on the bat, so it was difficult to get the ball away too."
