Kieron Conway will have the backing of another high profile Northampton KC when he enters the ring to take on Macaulay McGowan at Wembley Arena tomorrow night - Cobblers boss Keith Curle.

The pair met up last week when Conway took a break from his pre-fight preparations to meet Curle and a few of the Town squad who are boxing fans at the PTS Academy Stadium, including club captain Nicky Adams.

Conway was presented with a special Cobblers shirt with 'Conway 1' on the back, and the boxer has revealed he has taken the jersey with him to London as he gears up for his super welterweight clash with Macaulay McGowan.

Asked if it might get an airing in the ring at Wembley, Conway said: "I don't know about that, because I have a lot of sponsors! But I do have the shirt with me, so it might make an appearance."

The fight is on the under card of Anthony Joshua's hugely-anticipated world heavyweight title defence against Kubrat Pulev, and it means Conway's showdown will be beamed around the world on Sky Sports Box Office and DAZN.

And the Northampton fighter, who in August won the WBA Intercontinental super-welterweight title, will take on McGowan with the Cobblers manager and players right in his corner after he left an impression on those he met at the PTS.

"I have done a little bit of research on Kieron, and also had a quick five minutes with him last week," said Curle, whose Cobblers team are also in action on Saturday against Crewe Alexandra (ko 3pm).

"We obviously wish him well and the lad has got an air of confidence about him that I like.

"In fact, he was that confident I have even managed to have a little wager on him myself!

"He's from Northampton and it is an excellent opportunty.

"The fight on Saturday is the platform you want to be on, you want to be on the big stage, and I hope he does very, very well."

There were also tweets of support, with Nicky Adams writing: "Good luck @kconwayofficial tomorrow mate. We'll be watching."
