BOWLS: Kingsthorpe quartet get England call

Four Kingsthorpe bowlers are celebrating after they were selected by England for the forthcoming Senior British Isles Series.

The men’s series is to be played at Paisley IBC in Scotland, from March 15-17, 2018, and Neil McKee, Andrew Manton, Jamie Walker and Connor Cinato will be there.

McKee will play at No. 2 in a rink skipped by Jamie Chestney of Exonia IBC, Devon, and he will have with him Martin Spencer of Spalding IBC, Lincolnshire, at lead, and David Bolt of South Shields IBC, Tyne & Wear at No. 3.

Andrew Manton will play at lead in a rink skipped by Sam Tolchard, Torquay United IBC, Devon, and he will have with him Andrew Walters, Welford-on-Avon IBC, Warwickshire, at No.2 and club-mate Walker at No. 3.

Cinato has been selected as a travelling reserve.

No Northants players made the women’s team.

Cinato has also been selected for the England Juniors for their international series on February 10 and 11, 2018, at Nottingham IBC.

Cinato has been selected at skip of a rink which includes Oliver Fowler, Rugby Thornfield IBC, Rugby, Warwickshire, at lead, Glenn Williams of Riverain IBC, Hertfordshire, at No. 2, and another County player, Danny Walker of Wellingborough BC, at No. 3.

Billie Swift of Northampton & District is also celebrating after she was named in a Women’s Under 25 British Lions team, together with players from Scotland and Wales for the British International Series in February.

Swift has been selected to play at lead, with skip, Morgan Merryweather of Whiteknights IBC, Berkshire, and Robyn Hall & Hannah Price, both of St Neots & District IBC, playing at 2 and 3 respectively.

VPs are too powerful for visitors Norfolk

NORTHANTS Vice Presidents entertained Norfolk in a friendly at Desborough IBC and won 147-100.

The County VPs had four winning rinks, and the highest scoring of those was that skipped by Ron Chambers which won by 34 shots.

In the five-rink match they managed to win on just one rink, and the winning rink was that skipped by Dick Howell, which achieved a very good 15 shots victory against Mike Andrew.
