Cinato and Bryan cruised through their first-round match as they beat John Barnes and Clive Baugh (White Oak IBC) 30-11. They moved into a 24-4 lead after 10 ends and never looked back.

It was a much tighter affair in the second round as the Northants duo edged out Tom Doig and Phil Broughton (Nottingham IBC) 19-18. Having taken an early 15-5 lead, they were pegged back as the Nottingham pairing made it 15-12 with 14 ends played.

The last seven ends were very tense and the match moved into the final end with the scores level at 18-18.

On that last end, Doig ditched the jack with his bowl following into the ditch some 18 inches away.

But Cinato played a Bryan toucher bowl into the ditch to rest closer to the jack to secure a place in the last eight.

There, they came up against Louis Ridout and Sam Tolchard (Torquay United IBC) and they suffered a 25-12 defeat.

The Devon men opened up a 14-8 lead after 11 ends and the match was all over in the 18th when the county duo dropped four shots.

Cinato, who plays for Kettering Midland Band BC during the outdoor season, has been named in Bowls England’s trials team for the Men’s Junior internationals.

He joins Northampton West End’s Jamie Walker for the trial, which takes place at Victoria Park in Leamington on Monday, May 30.

The team of 24 players plus two travelling reserves, will be selected immediately after the trial to represent England in the British Isles Bowls Council Junior International Series to be held on the weekend of September 10 and 11 at Elgin BC in Scotland.

In the weekend’s other game, Wellingborough beat Desborough 76-72.

There is just one match to be played to conclude the season, and that match has quite some significance on the final positions in the table. Northampton & District IBC play Rushden Town knowing a win on two and a draw on another would see them overhaul current leaders Wellingborough to take the title.
