BASKETBALL: Outstanding Ollie so close to Giant-killing

Ollie Thomas impressed as Northants Thunder came agonisingly close to ending their losing streak in the Junior Men's East Midlands Development League.

Thomas racked up a total of 27 points as his side, who have now lost three in a row, were just edged out 89-85 at Mansfield Giants. Carlo Nieva also did well for Thunder as he amassed 19 points.

THUNDER were on the wrong end of a dramatic finish in this National League Division 3 South Conference clash.

The Northants side had been level at 70-70 with three minutes to go, but the Ducks just managed to nick the win.

Henry Benji top scored for Thunder with 18 points, while Jacob Holt and Devon Adams registered 12 apiece.

Derbyshire Arrows 55 Northants Thunder 66

THUNDER bounced back with a win over the Derbyshire Arrows, despite a fourth quarter nightmare.

Arrows won the final period 19-7, but it wasn’t enough as Thunder prevailed in the Under 16 Boys Midlands Development League encounter.

Josh Lloyd led the Thunder scoring with 21 points, while Ed Taylan gave excellent support with 17 points.

Chris Amankonah and Jared Ryan chipped in with 11 and 10 points respectively.

The team’s effort was clearly seen in the superb defensive showing of Tom Myers.

Northants Thunder 76 City of Birmingham II 63

JUDE CARMICHAEL led the way for Thunder as they prevailed in this Under 14 Boys Midlands Development League clash.

Carmichael claimed 24 points, while Oliver Dominique provided good support with 18 points.

Northants Lightning 65 Oaklands Wolves 33

Without a win since the beginning of November of last year, Thunder went into this Under 14 Girls East Midlands Development League game against Oaklands Wolves hungry for a victory.

They achieved that thanks to a confident team performance in which Ony Onwumechili claimed a superb 34 points and Katie Dinnell racked up 13.

NEBC Titans 21 Northants Storm 21

A YOUNG Storm team went undefeated in the Northants Hoopsterz Under 12 Tournament. Storm drew 21-21 with the Titans first team and managed to beat Northampton Vipers, Duston Hawks and Titans IIs.

Play-off chasing NEBC Titans cruised to victory in this BEL Under 14 Girls East Midlands League clash at Brentwood. Top scorers were KennyHamilton with 20, Tegan Millar-Opongutim with 19 and Hannah Bird with 12.

Northamptonshire Titans 67 Mansfield Giants 63

TITANS played brilliantly as they saw off BEL Under 14 Boys Northern Premier League leaders Mansfield Giants.

When the two sides met earlier in the season, Giants were handsome winners, but Titans earned sweet revenge.

Top scorers for the Northants side were Dane Carr with 21, Sam Grant with 13 and Taiwo Hamilton with 12.

IN the first meeting between these two sides, the Wildcats proved too strong for the Titans to handle in the BEL Under 16 Girls Northern Premier League.

Vicky Hughes top scored with 10 points while Frankie Patemore netted nine.

A WEAKENED Titans team put up a good fight but were eventually outgunned by Dynamite in this BEL Under 16 Boys Midlands Development League encounter. Tzion Essel-Jaji led top-scored with 11 points, with Sampresz Dixon and Jamie Butler adding eight points each.

NEBC Titans were taken apart by BEL Under 18 Mens Midlands Development League leaders Leicester.

TITANS played host to BEL Under 18 Mens Northern Premier League leaders Manchester Magic, and at half-time were only trailing 34-32. But Magic then pulled away in the final two quarters.

Under 15 Boys play in the Hoopsterz Tournament at NSB, Under 14 Girls travel to County Upper Wolves.

Sunday, January 31: Cadette Girls travel to Sheffield Hatters, Under 14 Boys travel to Notts Nova.
