BASKETBALL: Ollie and Carlo come to fore for Thunder

After a barren period at the start of 2016, Northants Thunder made it two wins in a row with a convincing 93-47 victory over a short-handed Leicester Warriors team.

Captain Ollie Thomas led the way as he top scored with 27 points in the Junior Men’s East Midlands Development League clash.

Carlo Nieva also impressed with a 21-point haul, while Ayo Oluyede had a solid game, scoring 14 points.

Having thrown a lead away in the fourth quarter against Riders on the previous weekend, Thunder had some of their big men back in their line-up 
for this Under 16 Boys Midlands Development League battle.

But they were unable to claim revenge, despite 22 points from Josh Lloyd and 
13 and 10 from Shekina Ntumba and Zak Kitchen respectively.

Leicester Dynamite 81 Northants Thunder 50

Less than 24 hours after the disappointing loss to Riders, the team was back on the road to Leicester to face top-of-the-table Dynamite.

And it was to be another disappointing encounter, with only Chris Amankomah (14) and Shekina Ntumba (11) able to score in double figures.

Northants Lightning 57 Barrow Thorns 81

After a couple of heavy defeats Thunder went into their Under 16 Girls Premier Division North fixture against Barrow Thorns in optimistic mood.

Lightning had defeated Thorns earlier in the season, but they were unable to repeat that success on this occasion.

Tia Dunrad-Allen and rookie Ony Onwunechili did make important offensive contributions, with 22 and 14 point tallies respectively, while Precious Ojagi worked hard for her 12-point haul.

Derby Trailblazers IIs 47 Northants Thunder 88

THUNDER secured a big victory in this Under 14 Boys Midlands Development League contest.

The Thunder scoring was led by Jude Carmichael, who had a hatful of assists to go with his 20-point haul.

Jonathan Ntumba also registered 20 points, while other important scoring contributions came from Oliver Dominique and Mateo Baja with 15 and 14 points respectively.

Ashley Kitchen chipped in with 11 points.

Norfolk Inceni 30 Northants Lightning 55

After their mauling at the hands of Southend Swifts the previous week, Thunder travelled to Under 14 Girls East Midlands Development League basement team Norfolk Inceni in the hope of picking up a morale boosting win.

And they managed it, with Ony Omwunechili leading the scoring with 24 points.

Rookie Chloe Amena contributed 16 points, while Poppy Barnet worked hard for her nine points.
