BASKETBALL: Higgins top scores in narrow Thunder win

Northants Thunder senior men picked up an impressive 74-73 National League Division Three South Conference win last Saturday as they squeezed past Team Solent.

In the excellent win, Richard Higgins top scored with 19 points, Benji Henry contributed 16, while Johnny Yates chipped in with 12 points.

If an MVP was being handed out it would go to Devon Adams, who scored 16 points.

The last time these two teams met in the Junior Men’s East Midlands Development League, Thunder were victorious as they comfortably won by 76 points.

And they were to win again, albeit by a narrower margin, as in-form Ollie Thomas top scored with 37 points, 29 of which came in the first alf.

Thomas was well supported by James Barden and David Nieva, who scored 18 and 14 respectively.

After three consecutive Under 16 Boys Midlands Development League defeats, Northants Cadet Boys got a morale boosting win against the Leicester Warriors second string.

In the big victory, the top scorers for Thunder were Chris Amankonah and Josh Lloyd with 27 and 24 points respectively. Ed Taylan contributed 12.

Half-term activities and injuries meant that Thunder went into this Under 14 Boys Midlands Development League clash short of several players.

Despite this, the team made a good start to the contest, but they were eventually edged out.

In the defeat, Jude Carmichael and Oliver Dominique top scored with 28 and 23 points respectively,while Ashley Kitchen provided good support with 14 points.

After their morale-boosting win against Norfolk the previous week, Lightning faced a much stiffer Under 14 Girls East Midlands Development League challenge against the second-placed Ipswich Bobcats.

They were eventually beaten but Sade Chambers showed good character, scoring nine points. Ony Onwumechili and Lucy Needham scored eight and seven points respectively.

Northamptonshire Titans 78 Mansfield Giants 64

NEBC Titans Under 16 Boys provided a remarkable finale at Weavers on Sunday, fighting back from being 23 points down in the third quarter to claim victory in this BEL Midlands Development League clash. Tzion Essel-Jaji led the scorers with 30 points, while Tyler Mutemensango added 14, Cameron Samuels 13, Solom Hughes eight and PJ Preston six.

Stockport Lapwings 79 Northamptonshire Titans 79

Lapwings won 88-80 after overtime

NEBC Titans Women travelled to Stockport for a nail biting BEL Under 18 North League match, but were edged out in overtime.

TITANS claimed an excellent BEL Under 18 Mens East Midlands Development League victory against an experienced Warriors team.

Top scorers were Danny Clark and Tyler Mutemasango with 18 apiece, while Tom Tomkins scored 16.

Thanks to a fixture quirk, the two sides met again in Leicester the following day, and again it was a tight affair with Titans edging home 76-75.

In a highly competitive match it came down to a buzzer beater from Tompkins to seal a Titans victory.

TITANS secured an BEL Under 18 Mens Northern Premier League victory.

Top scorers were Hayden Alcindor 25 and Jacob Round with 22.

Northamptonshire Titans 89 Leicester Riders 62

TITANS were soon back in BEL Under 18 Mens Northern Premier League action, and eased to a comfortable win over the Riders.

Top scorers were Hayden Alcindor with 21, Jacob Round 14 and James Andrews 13.
