From rose geranium to ginger and lemongrass, these affordable soap bars combine luxury skincare with eco-friendly credentials

There's nothing little about The Little Soap Company. The founder, Emma Heathcote-James, made her first bar of this organic, eco-friendly, 100% vegan, cruelty-free soap at her kitchen table in 2008. Now a bar sells every 23 seconds. That's a lot of soap!

And the brand's popularity makes a lot of sense when you've tried the products. These are luxurious but affordable bars of soap that prove indulgence can be squeaky clean when it comes to ethics. In fact, the company's belief is that businesses should improve the world and The Little Soap Company is now certified as a B Corp and declared carbon negative.

So what's all the fuss about? I tried a bar from three of the company's ranges - Eco Warrior, Organics and Naturals - and I can see how it's won so many awards over the years including the Queen's Award for Innovation.

The Organic Pure Rose Geranium Soap Bar is the flagship fragrance. They call it their "happy soap". It's made of natural ingredients including rose geranium essential oil, which balances the skin's natural oil production making it suitable for dry and oily skin.

It also has anti-inflammatory, healing and regenerative properties, all topped off with the uplifting floral scent of rose geranium. This £3.99 bar of soap really packs a punch. Even better, it's currently on offer at Amazon for £3.60.

The Naturals range is fragranced with a blend of essential oils and is completely free of nasties. I tried the Ginger & Lemongrass 100g soap and, like the Organic Pure Rose Geranium Soap Bar, this one also lathers up really well and leaves your skin clean and soft. Normally £2.30, you can get it for £1.95 right now.

My favourite, though, is the Eco Warrior range. There is barely space on the packaging to display the raft of awards this one's won! Choose from varieties including the sensitive scalp shampoo bar, the clear skin bar and body scrub bar, £3.75, currently down to £3.37 on Amazon.

The body scrub version is blended with oatmeal and citrus essential oils and serves as a top notch all-over exfoliator.

Brilliantly, the brand also caters for our canine friends with its Little Beast collection. The Little Beast Organic Smelly Dog Shampoo Bar, 100g, £5, is infused with charcoal and zinc oxide which are effective for getting rid of fox poo and other stubborn odours.

And the Scruffy Dog bar, £5, is ideal for pets with long, wiry and curly coats. Infused with marshmallow root oil, pink clay, and shea butter, this formula not only cleanses but also conditions and softens, making it ideal for tackling knot nightmares.
