With active noise cancelling, strong sound quality and marathon battery life, these affordable over-ear headphones challenge far pricier rivals without cutting corners

On the face of it, the new OneOdio Focus A6 headphones look like they offer a lot for not a lot of money.

They have a multi-mode Active Noise Cancelling system, a 500mA battery, 40mm drivers, and even a trick folding mechanism. All for just £52.13 (if you can catch this voucher deal on Amazon).

That's the sort of money you'd usually see cheap, unbranded headphones priced at, but OneOdio is very serious about their audio, and they've been a go-to brand for musicians, DJs, and gamers for a while now.

So I expected a high-quality feel from the new Focus A6s, and I wasn't disappointed. They have a reassuring weight to them, the structure is nice and solid, and the padded parts are soft and supple.

They're comfy to wear, with the adjustable headband cushioning the top of your head and balanced just right, and the ear cups are soft enough to feel comfortable, without letting in too much ambient sound.

Not that ambient sound is much of an issue here, thanks to the noise-cancelling system. It's by no means the most powerful or effective system I've tested, but it blows away anything else at this price point.

At the touch of a button, you cycle through a transparency mode, a wind noise reduction mode, and a wind-resistant transparency mode. My only gripe is that the button is a tad sensitive, so it’s easy to press it accidentally.

You can fine-tune the ANC settings a bit in the extensive app, but even off the bat, they work pretty well. Not on a par with a high-end set of cans, obviously, but the performance is certainly better than you'd expect.

And the same can be said for the sound. I was prepared to find the limits of the drivers pretty quickly, but the quality is surprising. There's a welcome depth to the audio, and the clarity holds on right through the volume range. I'm not exaggerating when I say that these perform better than some headphones costing twice or even three times the price.

Sure, they're not a £300 audiophile's wet dream, but they really do pack a punch, and the sound quality is better than it really should be for a budget pair of headphones.

Connectivity is good, with Bluetooth 6 built in, and OneOdio says the battery should last for up to 75 hours. This is reduced once you ramp up the volume, take long calls, and play with the ANC, but it's a battery that you won't need to top up every day, put it that way.

So they really punch above their weight. Over-ear headphones are generally bought by people who really appreciate decent audio, so it's normally the case that budget versions aren't worth bothering with.

But that's just not the case with these. If you want decent sound quality but you don't want to break the bank, give these a try. You won't be disappointed.
