Breaking down is stressful, but a new feature from The AA could make the rescue part a lot quicker and easier with location tracking and fast reporting

If there’s one thing you can count on in life, it’s that cars have a sixth sense for timing. They behave perfectly until the moment you’re late, stressed, and the weather has turned sour... And then they break down.

Mechanical failures are, at the very least, an inconvenience. They can also be expensive, or they can be quite dangerous.

And it's not as if calling for rescue is a convenient process either. Figuring out who to ring, describing where you are, waiting on hold, and then passing the time before a recovery truck arrives is the last thing you need.

However, there’s now a way to make at least part of the unpleasant process a lot easier. It’s possible to report a breakdown in under three and a half minutes, just by using an app — no call queues, no describing landmarks that may or may not exist, no panicked guesswork.

The app automatically shares your location, and you can track your patrol coming towards you on your phone just as you can with a pizza.

It's a new feature being offered to customers of The AA — the UK’s No.1 breakdown service.

Not only does The AA have more expert patrols in more places than anyone else, but they also typically reach members in around an hour and fix around four out of five breakdowns at the roadside.
