Vegan fans will soon have a new savoury treat to tuck into, as Ginsters announces it is launching its first ever vegan sausage roll.

The savoury snack is due to go on sale later this year, posing competition to bakery chain Greggs, which launched its own vegan sausage roll last year, to much acclaim.

Better than Greggs?

Cornish-based company Ginsters will launch its new plant-based creation in April this year, having partnered with Quorn to develop the savoury snack.

The product contains a meat-free Quorn sausage, peppered with herbs and spices, which is wrapped in a light puff pastry made without any eggs or dairy.

The sausage roll will have a guide price of £1.25, although shops are able to set their own prices, so it could vary based on location. By comparison, the Greggs vegan roll is slightly cheaper at just £1.20, although at 101g, it is smaller than Ginsters’ 130g version.

A second collaboration

The launch of the vegan sausage roll marks the second time Ginsters and Quorn have teamed up, with the brands collaborating back in 2019 to create the Ginsters vegan Quorn pasty.

The tasty Morrocan vegetable pasty comprises a butternut squash, chickpea, red piquante peppers, apricot and date filling, and is priced at £1.60.

Ginsters’ new meat and dairy free products come following the huge success of Greggs’ vegan sausage roll, and more recently launched steak bake, which proved to be a hit among customers. Much like Ginsters, both of Greggs’ vegan products are made with Quorn in place of meat.

When can I buy it?

Ginsters’ vegan sausage roll will be available to buy in stores nationwide from 15 April 2020.
