To celebrate the launch of the new Pets at Home store, an appeal has been launched to find a caring and responsible young pet owner who can help to officially open the store at the Crown Way retail park on Friday, March 11.

The national chain wants to recognise a young pet owner who has shown a level of responsibility beyond their years when it comes to caring for their furry friends.

They might be taking on essential duties involved in pet care or have formed a special bond with their pet.

Rushden’s young pet owner will be a shining example of how the five pet welfare needs - shelter, food and water, good health, appropriate company and the right living environment – are essential for keeping pets happy and healthy.

The winner will be invited to officially open the new store and will receive £100 worth of Pets at Home vouchers.

They will also be invited with their entire school class to participate in an exclusive workshop at the store where they will learn about the welfare needs of different animals.

The class will also get to see and hold some of the resident reptiles and small animals up close.

Store manager Jess Claringbold said: “Owning a pet is often the first responsibility many children get to enjoy.

“We are really looking forward to hearing the great examples of responsible pet ownership from young people in the local area and celebrating the next generation of pet owners.”

To nominate a young pet owner, email [email protected] with details of why they are deserving of the title as well as their school and contact details with “Rushden” in the subject before Friday, March 4.

The Northants Telegraph reported last August that Pets At Home was interested in opening a new store in the Rushden area, but no further details about where and when they wanted to open were available at the time.
