Marcus Robertson, chairman of Steam Dreams, which is organising the trip, said: “To start our journey with steam’s greatest celebrity as it returns to the tracks this year, will be a fantastic experience for those on board.”

He added: “With most tickets for trips with Flying Scotsman already sold out, this is a very special opportunity to travel with this famous locomotive.”

The Emerald Isle Explorer will depart from Northampton at 11.40 am on June 15 and head towards Chester, before a run along the North Wales coast, where passengers will spend the night.

On day two, passengers will bid farewell to the famous locomotive and board a ferry from Holyhead to begin a week-long steam tour of Ireland, which will take in the coastline of Wexford and the Giant’s Causeway.
