World Down Syndrome Day celebrated at Northampton shopping centre with blue and yellow light display

Weston Favell Shopping Centre celebrated the annual event throughout the day yesterday (March 21) with balloons and a stand to help spread awareness of the condition.

Staff at the stand were joined by Danny, a regular visitor to the centre who has Down Syndrome and is well-known to all the centre team.

Danny is the face of Weston Favell's World Down Syndrome Day campaign after his mother, Eileen Brown, asked them to get first get involved last year. He visits the shopping centre twice a week.

At around 7pm, the centre joined other buildings and monuments across the country as it was lit up with blue and yellow lights.

Kevin Legg the Centre manager of Weston Favell explains "The Centre are delighted to support this campaign for another year. If changing the colour of our building and having some balloons helps create awareness, it's the least we can do.

"Danny has been coming here for as long as I can remember, he is loved by many of my team and our retailers. He's such a lovely guy.

"While many improvements have been made in care and awareness for Down Syndrome affected people, there is still a long way to go, we are happy to support World Down Syndrome Day."

Yesterday was the 12th anniversary of World Down Syndrome day.
