Workmates in Northampton pay tribute to '˜little smile machine' India Chipchase

The Collingtree pub in East Hunsbury posted a statement on social media after police started a murder investigation and arrested a 51-year-old man.

It said: “Our hearts are broken, Our tears are flowing a steady stream for the loss of our colleague.

“Friend, loved one, little smile machine who will be greatly missed by all that worked with you or had the privilege to be served by you.

“You were a joy to work with nothing ever being too much trouble, always gave without expectation, you brought joy to so many.

“Your infectious smile and humour will be sorely missed. So much love out there for you little lady it would make you smile. Lots of love from all of us.”

Police said this morning (Monday) that the arrested man was still in custody but no-one had been charged over India’s death.

St Andrew’s Healthcare modern matron Pheon Silaule, who worked with India when she was a healthcare assistant for five months until January 2015, said: “We are shocked and saddened to hear of India’s death.

“She was a talented, caring, kind woman who got on well with patients and colleagues. Our thoughts are with her family and friends.”

Before joining St Andrew’s, India had worked at St Mary’s Day Nursery in Abbey Road, Far Cotton.

Initially, she was on a placement from Northampton College and was welcomed back as a part time nursery assistant.

Caroline Haywood, the nursery manager, said: “We are deeply saddened; what has happened is awful. India was such a caring, lovely and sensible young woman.

“She was someone who we took on part-time because of her lovely rapport with both the children and the staff.

“All the staff here are praying for her and her family.”
