The resurfacing and refurbishment work, which has also included the creation of wider pavements, has been completed six weeks ahead of schedule.

In addition, Northampton Borough Council, working in partnership with Northamptonshire County Council, has also introduced extended parking along the street so that shoppers can now pay to park for up to two hours.

Councillor Tim Hadland, Northampton Borough Council’s cabinet member for regeneration, planning and enterprise, said: “St. Giles Street and the surrounding area has a lot to offer and we’re keen to encourage as many people as possible to spend time enjoying the shops and cultural attractions in our town centre. Securing two-hour parking in the area can only serve to make Northampton more attractive to visitors.
