A Northamptonshire primary school has beaten hundreds of schools to be named as the Sunday Times Parent Power runner up, based on 2016 Sats examination results.

The 25th edition of the Sunday Times, Parent Power, has ranked John Hellins primary school in Potterspury as the second-highest performing school in the country based on 2016 Sats results, narrowly missing out on the top spot to St Stephens in East Ham, London.

Parent Power named John Hellins the second highest-achieving school, out of 500 primary and 100 prep schools.

Head teacher, Jodie Matthews said: "We are really proud to be placed number two in this ranking and were obviously delighted with our Sats results.

"We strongly believe that this is not just down to our exceptional teaching and amazing children, but also the way in which we deliver our immersive curriculum, the importance we place upon our learning environments and the attention we give to removing any barriers to learning that our children may encounter.

"We are continually striving for improvement and never become complacent. Our children are encouraged to be the best they can be and we will always do what is the absolute best for them."
