The Met Office had been issuing warnings all weeks about expected heavy snowfall on Thursday evening into Friday morning (January 9). All of Northamptonshire was covered by a yellow weather warning, with some of the county covered by an amber warning.
Forecasts rightly predicted between five to 10cm snow that would then turn into rain and sleet overnight into Friday.
So yes, we are aware the most people have opened their curtains this morning to nothing but raindrops on the windows and wet roads. However, it wasn’t a fever dream – less than 12 hours ago there was thick snow on the ground, with families around town enjoying the magic of that.
We asked for your snow pictures and we were overwhelmed by the response, so we have collated some of them into a photo gallery. We don’t get heavy, settled snow very often and for many it brings great memories so we think it’s worth marking!
Below are 18 joyful pictures of families enjoying the snow in Northampton and beyond.
