Water chute at Kettering's Wicksteed Park given listed status

Wicksteed Park's water chute is one of more than 1,000 sites in the country to have been given listed status.

The ride, created in 1926 by philanthropist Charles Wicksteed, has been protected by Government body Historic England by being made Grade II Listed.

It is one of 1,033 heritage sites to be given the status this year.

Alasdair McNee, managing director at Wicksteed Park, said: “We are delighted with the decision to give the water chute the listed status.

“It has been an integral part of the park for many, many years and showcases the wonderful vision and engineering of Charles Wicksteed in his quest to encourage children and families to explore and have fun.”

Other sites to have been given listed status include a concrete ‘Lego’ building at the University of Reading campus, a shipwreck in Somerset and a clapper bridge in Whitby.
