Volkswagen driver's injuries "serious but not believed to be life-threatening" after late-night crash in Northampton

A driver was rushed to hospital with serious injuries following a smash which closed a main road for three hours in Northampton on Sunday night.

Emergency services rushed to the scene on the A43 Lumbertubs Way after a silver BMW and blue Volkswagen collided at around 10.30pm.

East Midlands Ambulance Service took the VW driver, a man, to University Hospital in Coventry. A police spokesman said: "The injuries were serious but we do not believe they are life-threatening at this time."

The BMW driver, also male, was taken to Northampton General Hospital.

The road was reopened at 1.30am this morning.
