Two crashes in the space of just over an hour closed a section of the A5 trunk road throught Northamptonshire on Wednesday.

One person was taken to hospital following the first smash involving a car and a lorry on Watling Street north of the Old Stratford roundabout, near to Potterspury, at around 10.30am.

The road was closed in both directions for a time while firefighters freed the casualty from the wrecked vehicle, a while VW T-Rock.

A second smash involving a motorbike and a blue Citroen caused more queues through Towcester after 11.45am although Northamptonshire Police reported no major injuries.
