Tributes paid to '˜talented, dedicated' Northants teen Bryony Freestone

A 19-year-old Northamptonsire woman who drowned off the coast of Thailand has been described as a 'talented, dedicated and hugely popular student' by her university as tributes continue to be paid to the teen.

Bryony Freestone of Little Houghton, died while swimming in rough waters off the coast of Koh Chang in Thailand on Sunday.

The University of Exeter student was a keen surfer who had only recently travelled across Cambodia on a conservation mission to look at the effects of seagrass trawling in the country.

A spokesperson for the university, said; “We are deeply saddened by this awful news.

“Bryony is remembered as a talented, dedicated and hugely popular student and our heartfelt condolences and thoughts are with her family and friends.”

Many friends have now also taken to social media to express their grief at the loss of Bryony, who leaves behind a twin, Sophie.

Camille Ling, said: “A beautiful and selfless girl, RIP Bryony Freestone I will never forget all the memories made over all those years I have had the Privilege of knowing you.”

James Beaumont, said: “Bryony was a kind and happy young lady who took great pride in all that she did.

“She loved Cornwall and it’s beaches...and these same beaches will not be the same with one less surfboard hitting the waves. Rest in Peace.”

Alex Broome, said: “No words can describe the shock right now.

“Rest in peace Bryony Freestone you beautiful, kind hearted, enthusiastic girl. I know for a fact that you will shine on through in Sophie Freestone and she will make you so proud for the rest of her life.”
