Tributes paid to football manager who died in crash on A5 in Northamptonshire

Paul Oddy, aged 48 and from Litchborough, died at the scene of a crash on the A5 near the Whilton crossroad on Monday. Mr Oddy was driving a white BMW 3 series on the northbound carriageway between Weedon and Whilton just after 9am when the incident took place. As yet police do not know why the car left the road.

Mr Oddy was known for his passion for junior football, having involvement with teams around the area.

For the past two seasons he had been at Buckingham Town FC managing their under-18 squad.

Buckingham Town FC released a statement saying: “The club are saddened to hear the news that U18s manager Paul Oddy has passed away. The club wishes to send its deepest condolences to Paul’s family and friends at this difficult time.”

Mr Oddy had also managed the under-16 team at Woodford United FC, and for a brief spell ran the first team as well.

Andy Worrall, chairman of Woodford United, said: “Paul had worked with the club on the junior teams and also took over the first team at a very difficult time.

“His upbringing was in junior football through his children. His forte was working hard for youngsters and he will be missed by all.

“Paul’s personality was as big as him. You always knew if he was around as a manager, a spectator or as a parent. He wouldn’t shy away from making decisions. Paul was a character that everyone knew. He will be missed by people here at our club, and others across the region.

“The thoughts of everyone at Woodford United FC are with his family at this time.”
