Saturday (May 8) looks a complete washout with Met Office forecasters predicting a 90 per cent chance of rain for Northampton from 10am to 7pm.

Strong winds will ease on Thursday and Friday before picking up over the weekend, reaching 35mph according to forecasters.

@NNweather warns: "Our average May rainfall is 54.4mm but the latest models indicate accumulative rainfall totals of some 90mm between now and the 15th.

"After an exceptionally dry April the weather gods might be trying to balance the books."

Highways England closed the M1 northbound entry slip at junction 17 for Daventry for a time last night after heavy rain during the Bank Holiday Monday washout and a blocked drain caused the carriageway to flood.

Last month saw Northamptonshire's longest April dry spell as the county went 16 days without rain up to April 26, according to data from the Met Office weather station at Pitsford School.
