Drivers heading south on the M1 on Tuesday morning face 6½-mile queues after a car crashed into the central barrier near Luton.

Highways England are warning motorists to expected up to an hour's delay towards London from Milton Keynes and Luton with traffic crawling back to Toddington Services at 7am.

A spokesman said: "Lane four is closed southbound between Junction 11 and Junction 10 near Luton due to the car hitting the central barrier. There is congestion back to Junction 12 at Toddington."

Traffic on the A5 is also tailing back as travellers try to find an alternative route.
