Slow queues pictured at Northampton tip as residents drop off Christmas trees and waste under lockdown
The county council has shared advice on how to get rid of this year's Christmas trees safely following a rush on Northampton's waste centres on the first day of lockdown.
Severe queues were pictured at Northampton's tips yesterday (January 5) as families tried to drop off trees and rubbish for the start of the New Year.

Now, the county council has shared advice on how to safely dispose of this year's festive waste and what to expect at the waste centre.
Councillor Jason Smithers, cabinet member for highways and place, said: “Following the Government’s announcement last night, I am pleased to confirm that Northamptonshire’s Household Waste Recycling Centres will remain open.
"Social distancing measures remain in place on all sites, which limits the number of people who can dispose of their waste at any one time and as a result the throughput is slower than normal and queues may form.

"The council will closely monitor any updates on guidance related to the safe operation of the HWRCs and make changes if necessary.
“As with all journeys out of your home, please consider if it is necessary to visit the recycling centres whilst these additional National restrictions are in force. We ask all of Northamptonshire’s residents to follow the National guidance and ‘stay at home, protect the NHS and save lives’.”
