Rush-hour delays following smash on M1 southbound between Northampton and Milton Keynes

Drivers heading south on the M1 between Northampton and Milton Keynes are being warned to expect queues into Tuesday's evening rush-hour following a smash.

Highways England are reporting 20-minute tailbacks between Junction 15 and Junction 14 and fear things could get worse before they get better.

One lane is closed on the southbound stretch and a spokesman said: "The event is not expected to clear until between 5pm and 5.15pm so it could be a while before traffic conditions return to normal.

Sensors also show traffic building up on the A45, leaving Northampton to join the M1 at Grange Park.
