Roadworks hit Northampton: Abington Avenue and St Georges among streets facing short closures
West Northamptonshire Council has published a programme of temporary road closures and parking restrictions affecting Northampton and nearby villages as essential carriageway and utility works get under way from March.
In Northampton, Abington Avenue between Clarke Road and Park Avenue North will be closed for carriageway repairs from March 25, 2026, with restrictions expected to last up to two days and signed east- and westbound diversions in place.
St Georges Avenue, between Brick Kiln Lane and Trinity Avenue, will be closed from March 11, 2026 while contractors create a new bell mouth at Avenue Campus; the overnight restriction run through to March 14, 2026 with alternative routes signed for east- and westbound traffic.
Greatmeadow, affecting properties 1–50, is due to be restricted for carriageway repairs from March 12, 2026 for about two days.

Meanwhile Euston Road (nos. 59–98) is subject to a temporary prohibition on waiting, loading and unloading for gas connection works from March 9, 2026, with the restriction expected to last four days.
The wider programme includes works in a number of villages.
Furnace Lane in Nether Heyford will be closed from the junction of Winston Close for 110 metres from March 23, 2026 for installation of a chicane, with an expected five-day restriction and a signed diversion via Weedon Road, Heyford Lane and the A5. The Pound in Nether Heyford will be restricted for one day from March 24, 2026 for repair works.
Elwes Way in Weston Favell and Church Lane in Grafton Regis will be closed from March 24, 2026 for water pipe and water main repairs respectively, each expected to last about three days with local diversions.
Station Road in Helmdon will be restricted from March 24, 2026 for stop-tap replacement works, and Bradden Road in Greens Norton faces longer gas main replacement works starting March 23, 2026 and expected to continue until April 20, 2026.
Other short-term closures and restrictions are planned at Duncote Road, Bakers Lane, Charlton Road, Weedon Lois Road and elsewhere, with durations ranging from one to five days.
Most of the temporary orders come into effect in late March 2026 and remain on the statute book for up to 18 months, but the council says restrictions will operate only at times indicated by on-site signage. Motorists are advised to follow diversion signs and plan journeys accordingly.
