New traffic order blocks u-turns on busy road in Northampton this month
Motorists will soon be barred from making U-turns along a busy road in Northampton after West Northamptonshire Council (WNC) confirmed a new traffic order coming into force this month.
The authority has made the decision under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 to prohibit vehicles from carrying out U-turns on the A5123 St Peter’s Way. The restriction, detailed in the official order, will apply to the full length or specific parts of the road as set out in the accompanying schedule.
The council says the measure is designed to improve safety and traffic flow on one of the town’s busiest routes.
A copy of the order can be inspected at Kier Highways’ Brixworth Depot on Old Harborough Road, but only by appointment. Residents wishing to view it can arrange a time by calling 01604 529700. Electronic copies are also available on request by emailing [email protected].
Anyone who wishes to challenge the legality of the order has six weeks from the date of the notice to apply to the High Court.
The ban will officially take effect on November 24, 2025.
