New parking and waiting restrictions introduced on Northampton streets

New parking and waiting restrictions are set to come into force on several Northampton roads after West Northamptonshire Council formally approved amendments to its on-street parking order.

The changes are being made under an amendment to the long-running Various Roads, Northampton (Waiting and Loading Restrictions and On-Street Parking Places) Consolidation Order 2018 and took effect from January 26, 2026.

Among the most significant measures is the introduction of no waiting at any time restrictions – enforced by double yellow lines – at key junctions to improve safety and visibility.

On Monks Park Road, double yellow lines were due to be installed for junction protection with Monks Hall Road. Additional restrictions were also due to be introduced on the north kerb of Florence Road and Monks Park Road, and on the south kerb of Florence Road for 14 metres east of the junction with Monks Park Road.

Further double yellow lines were due to be added on Overslade Close, where no waiting at any time will apply on both sides of the road from its junction with Clannell Road to the entrance of the community centre.

New single yellow line restrictions are also being introduced on Hill Fort Close. These will prohibit waiting from 8.30am to 9.30am and 3pm to 4pm, Monday to Friday, on the north kerb from the existing double yellow lines to the start of the driveway of No.1 Hill Fort Close. Matching restrictions will be applied on the south side of the road.

In addition, a new ban on the waiting of goods vehicles over 7.5 tonnes will be enforced along the entire length of South View, Northampton.

West Northamptonshire Council said the changes are being made using powers under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and are intended to manage parking, improve road safety and address local access and congestion issues.
