New one-way system and vehicle ban proposed for Northampton road

West Northamptonshire Council is proposing new traffic restrictions on part of Upton Lane in Upton, including a ban on motor vehicles and the introduction of a one-way system.

The proposals have been put forward under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and are aimed at changing traffic movement along sections of the road north of its junction with West Street.

Under the plans, motor vehicles would be prohibited from travelling along a 62-metre stretch of Upton Lane beginning around 355 metres north of the West Street junction.

A separate section of the road would also become one-way only. If approved, vehicles travelling along a 139-metre stretch of Upton Lane from a point 295 metres north of West Street would only be permitted to travel southbound.

Documents relating to the scheme, including detailed plans and a statement outlining the council’s reasons for the changes, are available to view on the council’s website by searching for traffic regulation orders.

Copies can also be inspected by appointment at Kier Highways’ Brixworth Depot on Old Harborough Road.

Residents and road users wishing to support, comment on or object to the proposals have until June 4, 2026 to submit representations.

Comments should quote reference P2178 and can be sent in writing to the Traffic Orders Section at Kier Highways or by email to [email protected].

The public notice was published in the print edition of the Chron and on the Public Notice Network.
