Major roadworks set to hit Northampton streets in March
Drivers in Northampton are being warned to expect disruption as a raft of temporary road closures and restrictions come into force across the town this month.
West Northamptonshire Council has announced a series of orders under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, affecting several streets in Northampton from early March.
Among the most significant for town motorists is a temporary closure of Broadway East, between Beech Avenue and Lindsay Avenue, for carriageway repairs. The works are due to start on March 16, 2026, and are expected to last for one day. A diversion will be in place via the A5101, Birchfield Road East, The Headlands and Broadway East.
Euston Road will also see restrictions, with waiting, loading and unloading prohibited between numbers 62–98 and 59–93 while gas connection works are carried out. That order is scheduled to come into effect on March 9, 2026, and is expected to remain in place for four days.

Elsewhere in Northampton, a number of residential streets are set to close for short periods:
Montague Crescent, from the junction with Mordaunt Lane, for new water connection works from March 16, 2026, for an expected three days.
Baring Road, between Vicarage Road and Spencer Bridge Road, for carriageway works from March 19, 2026, for two days.
Merthyr Road, from Dallington Road to Aberdare Road, for investigation works from March 16, 2026, for five days.
Donellan Green, from Barley Hill Road for 100 metres, for installation of new tactile crossings from March 4, 2026, for up to three days.
Melville Street, between Talbot Road and Artizan Road, for water main works from March 3, 2026, for three days.
Beaumont Drive, from Cherry Lodge Road to Thornfield, for carriageway repairs from March 5, 2026, for one day.
Upper Cross Street, between Upper Bath Street and Crispin Street, for carriageway repairs from March 5, 2026, for one day.
Junction Road, between Kingsley Road and Oliver Street, for substation upgrade works from March 4, 2026, for three days.
In most cases, the legal orders will remain in force for up to 18 months, although the restrictions will only apply when the relevant traffic signs are displayed. The council has said the extended period allows flexibility should works need to be rescheduled.
Closures will also affect several villages and towns across West Northamptonshire.
In Towcester, Marlow Road will shut between Vernon Road and Jenkinson Road for carriageway repairs from March 16, 2026, for an expected three days.
In Greens Norton, Blakesley Hill will close from the junction of High Street to Benham Road for pole replacement works from March 16, 2026, for one day.
Main Street in Whiston will be closed between Whiston Road and New Cottages from March 18, 2026, for three days, while Church View in Brafield on the Green will shut from The Grove to the end of the road from March 2, 2026, for one day to allow telecom works.
Further one-day closures are planned for Sulgrave Road in Helmdon for drainage works and Halse Road in Greatworth for cabling and jointing works, both starting March 3 and March 16, 2026, respectively.
Red House Lane in Hannington will close from its junction with the A43 from March 4, 2026, for three days for water main works, and Blisworth Arm in Blisworth will shut between Station Road and Milton Road from March 3, 2026, for three days for a new water connection.
