Major Northampton roads to close temporarily for road repairs this month
Motorists in Northampton are being warned of a series of temporary road closures later this month as West Northamptonshire Council carries out essential repair and maintenance works.
Several roads in the town will be affected from January 16, including The Avenue, Pembroke Road, South Oval and Balmoral Road. The closures are being put in place under the Road Traffic Regulation Act to allow carriageway repairs to be carried out safely.
The Avenue will be closed between Kettering Road and Mountfield Road on January 16 for one day, while Pembroke Road, between Gladstone Road and St Francis Avenue, is scheduled to close for one day on January 19. South Oval will also be shut for one day from January 21, affecting the section leading to the rear of Park Square, while Balmoral Road will close on January 22 between Kingsthorpe Road and Cecil Road.
Each closure will be clearly signed on the day, with diversion routes in place to minimise disruption.

Elsewhere in West Northamptonshire, further temporary closures are planned across villages and rural routes. In Potterspury, High Street is due to close from February 2 for up to three days to allow water main works, while Resthaven Road in Wootton will shut from January 21 for new water connection works.
Other affected locations include Hollowell Road in Creaton, Brixworth Road in Spratton, Naseby Road in Welford, Gayton Road in Tiffield, and Northampton Road in Brackley, with works ranging from drainage and resurfacing to meter exchanges and vegetation clearance.
Although the legal orders allow closures to remain in place for up to 18 months, the council says the restrictions will only apply for the expected duration of the works, which in most cases range from one to three days.
Drivers are advised to plan journeys in advance and follow signed diversion routes while the works are carried out. Further information about individual closures can be obtained from the council’s highways team.
