Main road through Northampton closed after van overturns on Tuesday morning

Police have closed Towcester Road in Northampton after a van overturned on Tuesday morning.

The smash happened at around 11am but officers estimate it could take a while to clear the vehicle from near to Rothersthorpe Road.

Firefighters were called to release the trapped driver and East Midlands Ambulance service is also on the scene.

A Northamptonshire Police spokesman said: "This happened at around 11.05 am outside the Post Office in Far Cotton when a van collided with traffic lights and overturned.

"Towcester Road remains closed while recovery is under way and we would advise drivers to avoid the area."
