List of Northampton road closures announced ahead of December and January repair works
A series of temporary road closures across Northampton have been confirmed by West Northamptonshire Council as part of a programme of carriageway repairs and utility works due to take place throughout December and into the new year.
Several closures are scheduled to begin on December 15, 2025, including Duckworth Dell and Donellan Green, where each road will be closed for around one day to allow for carriageway repairs. On the same date, Main Road in Far Cotton will shut between Rothersthorpe Crescent and Rothersthorpe Avenue for up to two days, while Bramcote Drive will be closed between Wilford Avenue and Strelley Avenue for approximately one day.
Further disruption is expected on December 16, 2025, when Penfold Lane will be closed between Church Walk and Penfold Gardens for one day, with drivers diverted via Wellingborough Road, Great Billing Way and Fishponds Road.
On December 17, 2025, closures will affect Derby Road, between Kettering Road and St Michaels Mount, and Stubble Close, outside number 59, with both closures expected to be short-term. Telecom ducting works are planned at Stubble Close, while carriageway repairs are due on Derby Road.

Another Northampton closure will see Beech Avenue shut between Cedar Road East and Broadway East from December 19, 2025, again for around one day to carry out carriageway repairs.
Residents are reminded that although the traffic regulation orders remain in force for up to 18 months, the closures will only apply when works are actively taking place and signs are displayed.
Outside Northampton, a temporary footway closure has been proposed on Smitherway in Bugbrooke, affecting the section between numbers 12 and 20 from January 14, 2026, for telecom works. The restriction is expected to last two days.
In Greatworth, Brackley Road and Chapel Lane will be closed between Halse Road and The Square from January 12, 2026, for telecom ducting and clearance works, with restrictions expected to remain until January 14, 2026.
Meanwhile, major main replacement works will lead to phased closures on High Street and Buckingham Road in Whittlebury from January 5, 2026, with the first phases expected to remain in place until March 28, 2026.
Additional short-term closures have also been confirmed for roads in Alderton, Harpole, Cogenhoe and Great Brington, primarily to allow for carriageway repairs, telecom works and utility connections.
West Northamptonshire Council has advised motorists and pedestrians to allow extra time for journeys and to follow signed diversion routes where provided. The notices are dated December 11, 2025.
