Key Northampton roads to close for repairs and utility works in coming weeks

A series of road closures and traffic restrictions are set to affect motorists across Northampton and the wider district over the coming weeks, with several key routes in the town due to shut for essential works.

West Northamptonshire Council has announced a number of temporary traffic regulation orders, with roads in Northampton among the first to be impacted.

In the town, Raeburn Road will be closed between Hazeldene Road and Rothesay Terrace on April 10, 2026, for carriageway repairs. The closure is expected to last for just one day, with a diversion in place via Rothesay Terrace, Rothesay Road, Kenmuir Avenue and Hazeldene Road.

Meanwhile, Barry Road will also shut for one day on April 7, 2026, between Covington Street and Billing Road to allow for similar repair works. Drivers will be diverted via Billing Road, Lutterworth Road and Covington Street.

One of the busier routes in the area, Abington Avenue, will be closed for up to two days from March 25, 2026, between Clarke Road and Park Avenue North. Eastbound and westbound diversions will be clearly signposted using surrounding routes including Kettering Road and Abington Grove.

Elsewhere in Northampton, Elwes Way in Weston Favell will be closed for three days from March 24, 2026, while water pipe repairs are carried out.

Outside the town, a number of other schemes are planned. These include a one-day closure of High Street in Weston on April 9, 2026, for manhole replacement works, and a 30mph temporary speed limit on Burcote Road in Towcester from April 7, 2026, lasting for just over three weeks while temporary traffic lights are in use.

Further closures are scheduled across rural areas, including Shutlanger Road in Shutlanger, Welford Road in Chapel Brampton, and Furnace Lane in Nether Heyford, with most works expected to last between one and five days.
