Two lorries collided and one caught fire, closing the M1 for around four hours overnight between Northampton and Milton Keynes.

Highways England staff tweeted this photo in the early hours of Monday morning (April 20) showing how one of the HGVs mounted the reinforced central reservation barrier.

Firefighters dashed to the scene on the southbound carriageway to deal with the blaze between junction 15 and junction 14.

Traffic was diverted from junction 15 via the A508 through Roade and the A5 to Milton Keynes while recovery and investigation work took place.
