Emergency services close road in Northampton after serious accident

Police have closed a road in Northampton town centre tonight, Friday, due to a serious accident.

Pc Dave Lee, from the Safer Roads Team, said the St James Road junction with St James Mill Road would be closed "for a while" following a road traffic accident.

Stagecoach said that accident happened at the traffic lights and all services for St James were being diverted via Spencer Bridge Road.

A statement issued by Northamptonshire Police at 8.15pm said: "Emergency services are currently dealing with a road traffic collision on the A4500 (Weedon Road/ St James Road). Closures in place between #Northampton railway station & Franklin's Gardens & likely to remain so all evening. Motorists asked to avoid area."

There are no further details at this stage.
