Drivers warned of February disruption as multiple Northampton roads set to close
Drivers in Northampton are being warned to expect disruption next month as a series of temporary road and bus lane closures are planned across the town for essential utility and repair works.
West Northamptonshire Council has announced several Traffic Regulation Orders affecting key routes in Northampton from mid-February, with closures linked to water main works, pipe repairs, telecom installations and safety improvements.
Among the most significant is a closure on Birds Hill Walk, near the rear of a school, which will be shut to through traffic from February 16, 2026, for around seven days while new water main works are carried out. A signed diversion will be in place via Billing Brook Road.
Also starting on February 16, part of Victoria Road, from the junction with Wellingborough Road, will be closed for approximately three days to allow repairs to a fire hydrant. Motorists will be diverted via St Edmunds Road.

Further disruption is expected on Fawsley Road, between Queen Eleanor Road and Hereward Road, which is due to close from February 18, 2026, for around three days while pipe repairs are completed. Drivers are advised to use Hereward Road and Queen Eleanor Road as alternative routes.
In addition, the bus lane on St James Road, between the exit of the bus stop by Halford Autocare and the pedestrian crossing, will be temporarily closed from February 17, 2026, for around two days due to telecom works. No alternative route is available for this closure.
Outside Northampton, a number of villages across West Northamptonshire will also be affected. High Street in Scaldwell is expected to close for up to six days from February 16, 2026, for new electric connection works, while Preston Deanery Road in Hackleton will shut for one day from February 12, 2026, for carriageway repairs.
Other short-term closures include Middleton Road in Chacombe on February 17, Eastcote Road in Gayton on February 18, and School Lane in Abthorpe on February 4, each lasting around a day.
Meanwhile, High Street in Potterspury is due to close for around three days from February 2, 2026, for water main works, and a new 7.5-tonne weight restriction will come into force on Cowpastures Lane, Whittlebury, and Shutlanger Road, Paulerspury, from February 29, 2026, as part of a new road construction scheme. This restriction will remain in place until further notice.
Although each order is set to remain legally in force for up to 18 months, the council says the restrictions will only apply when works are taking place and will be clearly signed on site.
