Drivers face disruption as September road closures announced across Northampton

Motorists in Northamptonshire are being warned to expect disruption later this month as a series of temporary road closures come into force for essential works.

West Northamptonshire Council has confirmed that a number of streets in Northampton and surrounding villages will be shut for short periods in September, with closures ranging from one day to a week.

Among the affected roads is Agnes Road in Northampton, which will be closed eastbound between the entrance to Old Church and Kingsthorpe Road on September 22 for carriageway works. A signed diversion will take drivers via Semilong Terrace, St Paul’s Road and Kingsthorpe Road.

Also in Northampton, Adnitt Road (between Stimpson Avenue and Bostock Avenue) and Manfield Road (between Adnitt Road and Burlington Court) will both shut on September 24 for one day each to allow carriageway repairs. Diversion routes will be in place via surrounding residential streets.

That same week, Landcross Drive will be closed on September 22 between Abington Park Crescent and Filleigh Way, while Spencer Bridge Road eastbound will shut for two nights from September 22 to allow for structural investigation works.

Elsewhere in the town, Tintern Avenue will be closed from September 23 for up to a week between Gladstone Road and Countess Road for HV ducting installation.

Villages are also set to be affected. In Harpole, Nobottle Road will close for four days from September 22 for BT works, while in Cold Ashby, Stanford Road will shut from September 24 for three days for a new water connection.

Two rural routes are also scheduled for closure earlier in the month. Brampton Lane in Pitsford/Pitsford Road in Chapel Brampton will be closed for two days from September 11 for vegetation clearance, and Brington Road in Long Buckby will shut from September 8 for a week for a gas connection.

Within Northampton, Hunter Street will be closed from September 8 for two days, while Lower Farm Road will be shut on September 5 for one day of carriageway repairs.

The council stressed that although the legal orders allow closures to remain in place for up to 18 months, each restriction will only be enforced for as long as necessary and only while signage is displayed on site.

Full details, including diversion routes, are available from West Northamptonshire Council. Residents can also call highways officer Gary Thorp on 01604 651072 for more information, quoting the relevant reference number.
