Two sets of major roadworks to busy roads in Northampton town centre have been cancelled by the county council, which cited "recent weather conditions" as the main cause of delay.

Northamptonshire County Council (NCC) advertised both of the roadwork plans, which were due to take place at the same time on March 1, as public notices in the Northampton Chronicle and Echo newspaper this month (February).

The first set of works planned to resurface the Grafton Street area's roads and install new traffic lights. The council is set to provide further details about these works in "due course".

The other set of works were planned for the St Peter's Way and Bridge Street area of the town, but have also now been cancelled and reportedly rescheduled.

Cllr Jason Smithers, from Northamptonshire County Council, said: “Bad weather has meant that some works were cancelled and this affects our overall programme. Once underway, the work will last for approximately one week and will require road closures and diversions.

"Residents and businesses in the area will be written to with full details and our priority is to get these works started as soon as possible.”
