Roadworks were set to take place over six nights on major routes in Northampton town centre, according to a public notice Northamptonshire County Council (NCC) placed in The Chronicle and Echo newspaper on Thursday, February 18.

The works were scheduled to start on Monday, March 1, in the St Peter's Way and Bridge Street area of the town, which is the same time resurfacing works are set to take place in nearby Grafton Street and Spencer Bridge Road. However, when contacted for comment NCC said the St Peters Way works may be rescheduled for later this year due to the current "poor weather conditions".

NCC was asked to provide more information to explain if the works will definitely not be going ahead, this newspaper is awaiting a response.

The St Peters Way works, organised by NCC, were meant to prohibit traffic in St Peters Way (eastbound) from the roundabout to Bridge Street; Bridge Street from the westbound lane onto St Peters Way to Gold Street; Victoria Gardens from the junctions with Victoria Promenade; Commercial Street from St Peters Way to Bridge Street; and the entire length of Kingswell Street.

There was also supposed to be a temporary reversal of one-way traffic in St Giles Square from Wood Hill to Derngate. And no left turns were planned to be allowed from Swan Street onto Victoria Promenade.
