A busy road in Northampton is closed because of a burst water pipe - with motorists warned it is not expected to reopen until this afternoon (Friday, December 11).

Cliftonville Road has been closed since earlier this morning with Anglian Water crews working to repair the 'significant damage'.

Traffic has been busy all morning on the surrounding roads including the A428 Bedford Road, the A5123, the A5095 and the A45.

An Anglian Water spokesperson said, “Our teams attended a burst water main on Cliftonville Road in Northampton yesterday, they worked throughout the night and the repair was completed in the early hours of this morning.

"They are currently on-site completing the reinstatement of the road and would like to thank everyone for their patience while this essential work is completed.”
