After the snow, ice causing major problems on Northamptonshire's roads on Monday morning

Ice is causing a major problems on the A14 through Northamptonshire following Sunday's snow.
There are reports of shunts, breakdowns and a stranded lorry on the stretch between Junction 12 and Junction 13 for Thrapston.

Hide AdThe A45 is also struggling eastbound heading towards Thrapston according to traffic agencies with more delays reported on the A509 between Kettering and Wellingborough, and the A508 between Brixworth and Northampton.
Gritters have been out all night keeping attempting to keep main routes clear but many country roads remains extremely treacherous.
Superintendent Elliot Foskett of Northamptonshire Police warned: "It is pretty bad out there.
"Main concern is that road you expect to be clear has still got ice on them so you can imagine what the village roads are like, and we don't want to put any pressure on the NHS getting yourself in an accident and needing an ambulance to take you to hospital.

Hide Ad"If you do need to make that essential journey today, please take extra care on the roads. Even once the snow starts to melt, it will leave lots of standing water. "
Northamptonshire was blanketed by a covering of snow on Sunday.
A number of schools in the county are closed on Monday while a Met Office warning for ice remains in force until 11am.
Local weather watchers @NNweather forecast a slow thaw — but until much later.

Hide AdTheir forecast for Monday said: "Monday will be dry with long spells of sunshine in the county tomorrow giving a slow thaw of lying snow. The max temperature will be 3°C but it will be feel below freezing in the westerly breeze.
"Turning frosty again tonight leading to further ice issues."
