A long stretch of the A43 has reopened following a ten-hour closure after a significant fuel spillage in Northamptonshire.

The A43 in Northamptonshire was closed southbound between the M1 J15a (Northampton) and the A5 (Towcester) due to the spillage following an incident on the busy road shortly after 6am.

A diesel tank became detached from a HGV trailer which has resulted in a diesel spillage across all lanes of the carriageway.

A spokesperson for National Highways said: “National Highways Traffic Officers are on scene implementing traffic management. Further resources are on route to clear the spillage.”

At 4pm, National Highways confirmed that the A43 had reopened with no delays in the area, following extensive clear up works.

Drivers were thanked for their patience.
